So...I haven't updated in like forever, but I also haven't been on the internet for like two weeks, so that may be why. I had a free hour saved up at the internet cafe (not the wireless one) so I feel like I can actually spend some time here to update people.
Even though I should probably tell my family this before I just randomly post it on the internet...oh well....
I GOT MY EARS PIERCED ON MONDAY!!!!
Not that exciting for most people in the world, but it's a big deal for me, ok? The place was very clean and the guy there was uber-concerned with making sure we knew stuff was sterile. A few people got belly-buttons and eyebrows and such, and Caroline (if any of you know her) got her lip pierced. So I don't think what I did was too extreme.
A few weekends ago a bunch of us went to Baños, a 3.5 hour bus ride away. It's called Baños because of the hot springs there, but there was plenty of other stuff to do. We went horseback riding, and for those of you who have only been trail riding in the U.S. (the kind where the horses just walk and eat the whole time) you have been missing out! These things went at a full gallop several times on the way back, and the trotting in between was downright painful...but so much fun! We rode up to this waterfall and got off to take pictures, and it was pretty sweet. And it cost...you guessed it...eight dollars a person. How much does that cost in the states? I don't know, but I bet it's more expensive and it's definitely not as cool.
Other than that, I don't have much news...I've had a bunch of work to do, so I haven't been doing much interesting stuff except on weekends. Oh wait...we went to the Basilica cathedral in Quito on Monday (for spanish, though I'm not sure why) It was cool, but the "stairs" leading to some of the towers were absolutely freaky...more like ladders. I ended up going into this big open tower that I most definitely would not have climbed to if I had known that was where we were going. Fortunately, Caroline is freaked out by heights too, and Micah and Elin were both kind of surrounding us to make sure we made it to the top and back down without freaking out and freezing. It's a pretty sweet cathedral, and if you're ever in Quito I'd definitely suggest it. anyways, I should go before my internet bill goes up any more...more updates later! I just found out a few days ago that there may be free wi-fi at the mall, so I have to check that out.

Oh Kira. I would apologize for being so out of touch, but I have the feeling that you understand better than many of my friends the distractions and difficulties of living in a foreign country with limited internet access.
So, I'm glad you're having a blast! And wow, CBC has got you stepping way out of your comfort zone. Heights and body piercings? It happens. I ate goat intestines boiled in blood the other day. Anything is possible I suppose. (Though it should be noted that I didn't know exactly what I was eating and I only had a very very tiny bite.) Does this mean I should get you earrings as your african souvenir? Are you going to start wearing dangly earrings? Oh do, Kira, do!
It sounds like you're making some good friends. That's excellent. Friends make everything much more fun. I'm working on it. I don't have any friends as good as you yet, but I finally feel like I have a place at Rosslyn.
Have you been doing anything creative or producing any brilliant works of art? You should you know. Anything you make while you're in Ecuador will be doubly cool and artsy because you made it in Ecuador.
Toodles amiga.

So you shouldn't post your piercing secrets all over the internet and let mom know you have a blog if you don't want me to know what body part you got pierced. Not that it was that hard to guess; Rachel Phillipi and I were discussing it on AIM, and we agreed that we couldn't see you getting an eyebrow piercing. Your blog is much cheerier than mine, perhaps because you're in a different country and so forth, while I'm still in little ol' Pittsburgh. I suppose I should make a point of posting on my blog more often, since I never actually talk to you. Oh this crazy techno-world in which we live!
That's all I got for now. I think I'll go read Eugene O'Neill and fall asleep.
Oh, one more thing: I might be able to help you with pictures. First of all, the picture has to be hosted somewhere on the web. If you need a good place, you could send me copies of your pictures and I can store them on my Pitt server space. If you haven't already figured it out yet, the appropriate HTML tag for an image is: img src="the picture's URL" (enclose that entire thing between two brackets, like this <>). There are a lot of HTML websites out there if you want to play around with sizes. Or you could wait until Christmas break and I can explain it if this has made no sense.
A bientôt, ma soeur!
